In this black top – red lights photoshoot inspiration we will not be gatekeeping how this magnificent photos where achieved. We will be discussing the location, gears, and how the poses came about. If you are searching for such a photoshoot inspiration then you are in for a treat.
Ps… I love my glow up journey and the confidence I now have in my skin whenever I do a photoshoot.
Location
This photoshoot took place in our bathroom.
Know that, it does not matter the size of the bathroom. All you need to achieve this look is a solid color backdrop. In our case since we were doing mainly close-ups and medium close-ups we used a semi-small black towel.
This black towel created an impression of a black backdrop. You could copy that too if you do not have a real black backdrop. Additionally, if you want to do wider shots then get a bigger towel.
Tips
- Use long lenses to decrease the field of view.
- If you have a small bathroom you should crop the shot tightly.
- When you use telephoto lenses the field of view decreases a.k.a the shot is very tight.
Lighting
Two tube video lights were used. On the first picture, the main light has a warm temperature while the second picture the main light is blue in color. Both have the secondary red rim light.
My fiance chose red as the rim light color since it’s gives a mysterious vibe plus, it’s catchy and grabs attention easily. You can see my hair has a glowing dynamic effect that was brought about by the secondary light hence achieving his goal.
Photoshoot inspiration, Make up and Wardrobe
The makeup here is not intense. I tried to be cohesive with the light and went for a red lipstick. The brand of the lipstick is loreal which is matte hence lasts longer and give a non – glossy finish touch.
My face only has foundation which is also loreal and a translucent baby powder to give it a final matte touch. I also had black eyeliner and a shiny dull red eyeshadow. About my eyelashes – I do not have any eyelashes but the mascara played a good part in elongating my eyelashes.

On the other hand my top is a black long sleeved bodysuit that I got from h&m. I chose it due to it crossed checked front pattern and the way it fits my body.
Photoshoot inspiration, Poses and Expressions
In reference to the three pictures I have the first one has more serious intensity to it as I am facing directly to the camera. The light is powerful and the warmth gives me a some what almost natural glow.
The second one which is above has blue tints. Sometimes, opposite tones like cold and warm complement each other. I love it because the pose curves my body to the side and that creates dynamic shape. Although I look straight ahead, my body has an edge and also the hand on the hair gives some excitement to the picture.
Tip- Yes you can put your hands on your head just make sure they do not smudge your hair.
Lastly my below picture which is more of a side profile has my hair bathing in red light. I love it because:
- It shows my eye makeup.
- The pose in general works super good.
- My hair is looks beautiful against the red light.
Feel free to ask any questions you might have regarding this photoshoot inspiration. My fiance and I will gladly answer.
