Outdoor Fitness Photoshoot Ideas For Women
a) Location
This photoshoot took place on our balcony. We chose that place as it is big and has plenty of space. I was using the skipping rope as my prop hence I needed space to skip around. And obviously it is an outdoor fitness photoshoot hence it did not make sense to do it inside the gym.
However, you can decide to do it outdoor anywhere for example, the beach or a cleared forest. Just pick a place that goes well with the prop that you will be using in the photoshoot.
In this photoshoot, I picked this skipping rope because it gives a wide range of posing ideas and also I use it on regular bases. You could copy this too or use a different prop. For example; Resistance bands, yoga mat, dumbbells or kettle bells.
Advantages of using gym props in your fitness photoshoot ideas
- Shows mastery in the gym equipment you’re most familiar with.
- Props can be used to convey a specific message in the photoshoot.
- Props in fitness photoshoots enable creativity and experimentation in posing.
- Fitness props help the people viewing your pictures automatically know it’s a fitness photoshoot.
b) Poses
1. Skipping rope behind you
Hold the skipping rope with tightly behind your back. This results to you being the main focus of the picture not the rope. Choose to either look into the camera or look away from the camera. You can additionally allow a little bit of the skipping rope in the hand on hang behind you. Take a look at poses A and B
2. Skipping rope on the side
This is a perfect pose that contrasts your curves to the straight rope that is by your side. you can make it even better by laying your hand on your leg just as shown.
Just as in the above pose description. You can choose to either look straight into the camera or away. Check out pose C
3. Skipping rope to the forefront
Extend the rope to the front, you can either make the rope tight or a little bit lose. This pose ensures that the viewer’s attention is drawn to the model and the activity they are engaged in. Also the skipping rope being in front adds a depth to the overall pose. Lastly by positioning the skipping rope in the foreground, it can serve as a leading line that draws the viewer’s eye towards the model’s face.
4. Side profile and skipping rope behind
With this side profile, the skipping rope can serve as a leading line that draws the viewer’s eye towards the model’s figure. This pose shows the model’s curves which are very feminine. You can also either look away from the camera or to the camera. Take a look at this picture composition. Also one of my leg is slightly forward and a little bit raised.
Overall posing tips for Outdoor Fitness Photoshoot Ideas For Women
- While posing, ensure that the model’s posture appears natural and relaxed.
- Select an outfit that is both appealing and can be used for fitness exercises.
- Add fitness props to give overall fitness appealing images.
Lighting and Gear
The natural light was the main light. Then I added two tube lights on each side to give an extra pop to the model. Natural light can be good but it lacks contrast, and is hard to control sometimes. Adding extra lights adds catchlights to model’s eyes, removes unwanted shadows and makes the image more vivid. I chose purple light for both tube lights because I wanted to emphasize the outfit’s color. Sometimes more is more and focusing on one specific color is good
I used Canon R6 camera and Canon RF 24-70mm 2.8 lens. Usually I prefer longer portrait lenses like 50mm or 85mm. However, this variable zoom lens gives more possibilities to different photo compositions or photo sizes. So there you have it, good lack on your next photoshoot, may this outdoor fitness photoshoot ideas inspire your next photo session.
In conclusion, a combination of these posing, lighting and gear tips will help you not only celebrate but also capture your efforts and progress in style.
